'Mulholland Drive' de David Lynch es considerada la mejor película del siglo XXI

Mulholland Drive (2001) —dirigida por David Lynch y protagonizada por Naomi Watts y Laura Harring— fue considerada como la mejor película del siglo XXI, según un ránking publicado por BBC Culture que incluye a 100 largometrajes de todo el mundo. Además, la lista toma en cuenta la opinión de 177 críticos de 36 países.

Esta cinta se estrenó en el Perú con el nombre ‘El camino de los sueños’ y fue originalmente ideada por el cineasta como un programa para televisión. También le valió a David Lynch se galardonado con el premio a Mejor Director en el Festival de Cannes 2001, Mejor Película para el Círculo de Críticos de Cine de Nueva York y una nominación al premio Oscar en la categoría de Mejor Director.

El segundo lugar lo ocupó In the Mood for Love (2000) del director hongkonés Wong Kar-wai. La tercera posición es There Will Be Blood (2007) de Paul Thomas Anderson, en la cuarta se ubica El viaje de Chihiro (2001) de Hayao Miyazaki, y Boyhood (2014) de Richard Linklater cierra ‘top five’ de la lista.

Este listado incluye tres películas latinoamericanas.

• Ciudad de Dios (2002) de los brasileños Fernando Meirelles y Kátia Lund en el puesto 38.

• En el puesto 89 aparece la coproducción de Argentina, Francia, Italia y España La mujer sin cabeza (2008) de Lucrecia Martel.

• Dos lugares más abajo está El secreto de sus ojos (2009) de Juan José Campanella y protagonizada por Ricardo Darín. Esta cinta se llevó el Oscar a Mejor Filme Extranjero en 2010, cuando compitió contra La teta asustada de Claudia Llosa.

El único filme sobre superhéroes que aparece en esta relación es The Dark Knight (2008) de Christopher Nolan, en el puesto 33. La vie d’Adele (2013), de Abdellatif Kechiche y basado en una novela gráfica, está en el puesto 45.

Para quienes gustan de las películas animadas, hay 4 que fueron consideradas en este ránking y son de Pixar: WALL-E (2008) en el puesto 29, Inside Out (2015) en el lugar 41, Ratatouille (2009) en la posición 90 y Finding Nemo (2003) en el lugar 96.

También aparecen El Laberinto del Fauno, de Guillermo del Toro, en el puesto 17 y Hable con ella, de Pedro Almovodar, en el lugar 28.
